Description
Very Old and Charming Silver Chocolate Pot from Flanders. Made in Louvain in 1712.Wooden handle, likely Ebony.
The high purity metal glows with that soft radiance found in truly old silver .
It is a petite example of the pots used to brew hot chocolate back when chocolate was mostly consumed as a liquid.
The style of this pot and its feet, lid and spout are similar to other Flemish Chocolate pots from this era.
Truly an historical piece and a find for a discerning Collector.
There is a name inscribed on the side, "Jiya," likely added later in its life.
The hallmark with a crowned D definitively places this piece in Louvain in 1712, per "The Book of Old Silver" by Seymour Wyler.
The other two marks are yet to be interpreted.
Fitting for its age this piece shows a fair bit of wear.
The lid is no longer fastened to where there once would have been a hinge.
This piece shows a number of dings and dents. There is an incomplete repair on one side (pictured).
