Description
Lovely Swedish Large Stuffing Or Gravy Spoon .800 Silver dated 1837 in the King's pattern. The spoon bears theNational Control Mark of Sweden consisting of the three crowns of the Swedish coat of arms in a trefoil shape.
The name of the maker, M
öttenrong, and G4 indicating it was made in the year 1837. There is also a 4th mark, which is either the town mark or the s mark for silver standard -- I can't tell what is inside the circle. Regardless, the older spoons often do not have the s, but this tests as .800 silver.
This stuffing spoon weighs approx. 142 grams, and is 11-3/4 inches long. Normal scratching to bowl and a few tiny pin pricks to bowl. Good condition, especially considering that this piece is almost 200 years old. There is a beautiful shield on the front of the cartouche rather than a monogram. Initial start price well below scrap (assuming .04 per ounce for 100% silver), which would make this spoon .50 for .800 silver. Beautiful antique spoon.
