Truly magnificent antique Austrian silver and cut glass claret jug. I have not seen one quite like it before, it is a one of a kind piece. The silver has a textured bark like appearance with a figural grape, vine and leaf finial. There are looped tendrils near the spout The handle is a figural grape vine with leaves and tendrils. The large leaf at the top of the handle is the perfect place for you to rest your thumb when you pick up the jug with your right hand. The vine hugs the side of the jug in such a beautiful and artistic manner. There are two hallmarks on the inside rim of the lid. One is the clover shaped "Diana head" 800 silver standard for Austrian silver, and the other is a maker mark "JD". The piece measures 10 1/2" tall to the top of the finial and 6" across from the spout to the handle. The flower petal cut footing is 3 1/4" in diameter. It is quite heavy, being 2.29 pounds. The cut glass is stunning, a row of cut stars around the top, optic convex cut vertical bands in the center and a flower petal cut footing. Excellent condition. Crystal clear glass. Two tiny fleabite nicks on the edge of two petals on the base. The is such a beautiful and unique piece. You will not find another. You will absolutely love it.
