    Description

    Presented is a very large antique silver fish slice, made in Continental Europe in the 18th century. The slice has a great lion's head-form joint between the handle and blade. The blade is decorated with different leaf forms, a large engraved fish in the center with hand-chased scales and eye. The handle is a sturdy cut-corner rectangle. The slice may have been made in Switzerland or Austria. We are not sure of the country of origin.
    The fish slice is marked on the blade with a government mark of a head in profile with an 8 or B to the lower right, and a fleur-de-lis next to an A and star or sun. There is also a large mark of the initials VC in cursive script in a beaded border. We are not able to identify these.
    The condition is excellent. The handle and blade are in great shape. There are no breaks, no cracks, no splits, no dents, no chips and no repairs.
    The slice measures 11 3/4 inches long.
    The weight is 185.4 grams or 6.54 ounces.
