    Description

For your consideration: a set of 20 rare antique (early 1800s) Sicilian Silver 833 forks and spoons, including:
++ a set of 8 8" dinner forks with curved handles and tapered pointed tines
++ a set of 6 8 1/2" heavier, slightly more ornate dinner forks with more heavily curved handles and tapered pointed tines
++ a set of 6 8 1/2" heavy soup spoons with heavily curved handles and tapered pointed bowls
Lovingly passed down from generation to generation, this set will make the delight of any collector of fine Italian silver.
Hallmarks: Multiple sets of hallmarks. All the forks and spoons are marked with the head of Ceres facing left with the number 8 on the lower right hand side (a rare Kingdom of Naples hallmark similar to the mark of Parthenope facing toward right used in Naples in the same period. This particular head of Ceres hallmark was  used exclusively in Sicily after 1826 but before 1872). This indicates a silver content of .833 (83.3%).  Some of the forks are stamped NR with an additional hallmark. Other forks are stamped PA with an additional hallmark.  There are additional hallmarks as well, but faded so hard to make out.  All flatware tests positive for silver 833.
Dimensions: The forks in the first set are 8" long. The forks in the second set are 8 1/2" long . The spoons are 8 1/2" long.  Total combined weight of 1231g (1.231 Kg.)
Condition: Very good vintage condition (some signs of wear consistent with age and close to two centuries of use: some of the tines are bent or misaligned, there is some slight surface wear and patina). There is a small crack between the bowl and the stem of one of the stems. The flatware has not been cleaned so there is a some patina (should polish nicely).
    Provenance: Estate.
    Reasonable offers will be considered.
