Description
Wooden & glass toothpicks came into vogue in Continental Europe 1830's and were so popular that by the late 1880's in the US the American National Toothpick Association was formed. In the Grand Tour cities especially Spain & Portuguese the Art form of exotic holders came to being. This holder while larger and heavier than most is one of the shapes often used in Spain, Portugal and Brazil. It is extremely detailed and entirely made by hand. I'm not certain you will ever find an other this fine or quite so large 776G.
It's marked old Portuguese 10 for 90% silver as .900 but when tested it comes back at between .925 & .950 but we will call it 900 as marked.
