Description
WW1 US DOUGHBOY SOUVENIR BAYONET FROM 37th INF DIV BUCKEYE OHIO NG ESTATEI purchased this with a 37th INF DIV grouping nearly 30 years ago from a family Estate in Dayton, OH. I had not intended to sell any of it, but unfortunately new family plans have me breaking down some of my WWI static displays.
The uniform grouping and all other items were put together on a mannequin, in a climate-controlled garage. It had been one of my various unit setups of WWI US uniforms and equipment.
This listing is for a French army CHASSEPOT Modele 1866 bayonet with scabbard. It was in the footlocker wrapped in a field shirt. Quite certain it came home from France with this 37th ID Veteran in 1919.
This thing is HUGE. Approximately TWO feet long, looks almost like a small sword ! Condition exactly as pictured.
The Scabbard is MINTY in excellent condition, with 98% of finish, no dents and no rust.
The bayonet has a finned brass handle. Foundry-marked on the spine but very hard to make out. It is also marked with a very early manufacturing date of 1871. Impressive long curved blade.
Overall, an iconic souvenir of the Great War by a 37th Inf Division Veteran. Shipping is in CONUS. NO overseas shippig.
