Description
Presented is a fine set of 4 Italian silver candlesticks. These candlesticks date to the late 1700s or early 1800s. These are handsome candlesticks, with elegant gadrooning at various points along the shafts, as well as on the bobeches and bases. The bases unscrew from the shafts. These are sturdy, well constructed silver pieces with a nice feeling of weight, made from thick guage silver throughout. There are two monograms that are on the underside of the bases, as shown in the photos. These are old original monograms, and their basic style indicates an 18th century origin.
The candlesticks are in great overall condition. Two of the bobeches are soldered on, while the other two are removable. One of the bases has a small crack where the shaft screws in, but the pieces still fit together just fine. As the photo points out, one of the candlesticks has some old solder repairs to the base. There are no other problems.
There's a Venice mark for the late 17th/18th century, as well as maker's marks we cannot identify. These candlesticks are 900-950 purity silver. They are well over 200 years old.
Each candlestick stands about 8 1/4 inches tall.
The total weight is 1855 grams or 65.5 regular ounces. The candlesticks are not weighted. All the weight is silver. -jm
