Just minor collapsing on back of torso. "Skin" still feels smooth, not dried out, a rarity. Head in very good shape with no cracks and only minor rubs to "hair' paint. Good lip paint. Eyes stick either open or closed and need manual assistance. Eyelashes 75% gone on right eye, 25% gone on left eye. Original outfit in pretty good shape with ribbon ties but one is pulling away from the seam and the other is pinned in place. Has only one bootie; it is original but has little hole near toe. Has her original bubble pipe; I think it is missing a little tip that went into her mouth. But it is REAL, not a replacement. Nonsmoking estate.

    Description

This is the earliest Tiny Tears doll, made from 1950 to 1955. She has the rubber body with hands in the palms-down position. Her body is in remarkable shape for these dolls. Since little girls were bathing (and over-bathing) their Tiny Tears babies, the rubber bodies are typically a wreck today. Usually they have dried out rubber, which feels rough and has deep cracks, and it is common for the dolls to be missing their fingers which dry out and break off. But this little one must have had a neglectful mommy. Her body is not over-bathed, and consequently her skin is still smooth and body is squeezable and shiny. She has the most minor of surface crazing but I mean very very minor and visible in blown-up close-up photos. Fingers are all intact, limbs hold a pose! She has a bit of torso collapse but only on her back; her tummy is nice and round. Tiny Tears' head is also in very good shape. She is the early molded head/hair variety, and her painted brown hair is still very nice with light rubbing to the back. Her lips are really good and not repainted. She has light brown brows, also original. Her eyes stick open or closed and she is missing a lot of eyelashes. Her romper has her name embroidered on the front; she came to me wearing this. The ribbon ties do the job but one is just pinned in place, and the other is starting to pull away from the seam. Baby has her original bubble pipe. This is authentic, not a stand-in. It seems to be missing the tiny rubber tip that would have gone into her mouth. She also has ONE of her original pink booties, in ok shape with the start of a hole at the toe. I did not wash/bath this doll; she could use a wipe down but I'll leave that decision to the buyer. I don't want to damage the wonderful rubber. She measures about 15" with curved baby legs. This doll is from the estate of her original owner, a nonsmoking home.
