Here is a Top Quality Crystal and Solid Silver Claret Jug or Wine Decanter Made in Prague circa 1900 by the Famous Silversmith, Alfred Pollak, Court Silversmith to the Emperor Franz Joseph of AustriaThe Lid, Collar and Handle are Finely Crafted in Hallmarked 800/1000 Standard Solid Silver in an Elegant Art Nouveau Design
This Handsome Decanter features a Star Burst Design Cut into the Bottom and the Body is Plain and Uncut – the Lid has a Round Ball Finial
This is a fine Claret Jug, Exhibiting Top Quality Workmanship
The Decanter Measures 9 inches Tall (23 cms) and 5.1/2 Inches Across the Handle and Spout (14 cms)
The Maker’s Mark Shown is “A.P” for Alfred Pollak, who had Branches in Prague (1878) and Budapest (1892). He Opened a Branch in Vienna in 1896 and was Appointed Court Silversmith to The Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria.
The Hallmarks are first the Head of Diana with the Number 3 for 800/1000 fineness and the Town Identification Letter “c” for Prague, second the Double Eagle Mark of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and thirdly an Initial “C”
Correct Partial Marks also Appear on the Inside of the Lid
