Description
Truly wonderful & unique antique find! A beautifully simplistic one-of-a-kind George III 1804 solid Sterling Silver (.925 purity) snuff box. Made in London, England. The lid is engraved with faint thick line across and heraldic crest depicting an arm in armor embowed and holding in hand a lance or spear.The stamps on the box are as follows (see photo # 4):
Maker's mark: I.T or J.T (first initial partially erased w/ use) for (possibly) James Turner
The Lion Passant (walking, with the right fore paw raised and all others on the ground; a "Lion of England"): indicates .925 purity silver
The crowned leopard for the London Assay Office
The date letter I in cartouche for 1804
The head of George III, the duty mark
