SIGNED & HALLMARKED Hooijkaas
This is a Dutch silver windmill shaped box (bigger than most I have found at about 8 inches)  It is early but I am not certain exactly how early. By the Hallmarks, it appears to be made by Herbert Hooijkaas. The top portion of the windmill comes off to expose a storage space inside, maybe for snuff or spice, but it can be used for any purpose.
Beautifully made as a windmill. The blades actually spin, and there is a wheel at the back of the catwalk that spins, as well.
This piece is stamped with the Dutch lion hallmark which indicates at least 833 pure silver and the assay mark of Minerva's head.  It has the makers mark for Herbert Hooijkaas. The lion stamp is on the bottom of the piece, one of the windmill blades and the catwalk, a letter M2, and a letter N in a circle.  ONE OF THE BLADES ALSO HAS A LION WITH IT'S TAIL UP.
This piece is in great condition.  No splits OR breaks, No dents or monograms - never repaired
PLEASE READ:  This handmade silver figural has a beautiful natural patina.  Of course, that can be buffed out to a mirror finish (as can all silver) but I would never touch it, however, that is up to the buyer.  There is one very tiny ding (and I mean tiny) on the very bottom rim of the base which is BARELY NOTICEABLE IF AT ALL.  (I had to use a 10 power loupe to find it)  IN MY OPINION, THE IMPERFECTION IS SO SMALL THAT IT DOES NOT  TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM THIS GREAT PIECE.
This piece is about 8 inches tall (to the top of it's windmill blade) and weighs about 287 grams.
