antique, Dutch silver spoon
made of a knife haft from the 18th century and the bowl and neck from 1874
adjusted as a nursing spoon
with on the 18th Century haft with Onslow pattern,
an alliance coat of arms of the noble famiies
Van Randwijck Van Reede
this is a conjugal seal with two caot of arms, the left one is of the male and the right one of the female in a marriage,
there has been a marriage of a male Van Randwijck with a female Van Reede,
they were:
Frans Steven Carel Van Randwijck
/ Francois Steven Karel Van Randwijck, 1697-1785,
Heer van Rossum, Beek en Heeselt
and
Ursula Philippota Van Reede Van Amerongen
/ Urselina Philipina Van Rhede, 1709-1778,
born at Kasteel Zuylestein, Amerongen
The adjustment to a nursing spoon must have been in 1874, because the clear Dutch silver / hall marks show:
makers mark: an anchor above WHH - used by Helweg, Amsterdam in 1874
and 1875,
year mark: the P of 1874,
Dutch silver mark: a lion to the right - used between 1814 and 1953,
the city mark or Mercury head (the letter of the city is not visible) - used between 1814 and 1905.
the Van Randwijck escutcheon: a lion in a scaloped circle - supporter a dog / greyhound,
the Van Reede escutcheon: in silver two black bars / dancetty - supporter a griffon
condition: firm, good shape, no dents or bumps, nice patine, no cracks, no restoration
lenght of the haft: ca. 10 cm / 3.9 inch - width of the whole: circa 14 cm / 5.5 inch
weight: circa 105 gr.
