Description
1871 Prince Edward Island Canadian One Cent Penny -My Grandfathers Collection. It was in the coin protector when he gave it to me in 1969. It’s in perfect condition. I did remove it from the coin holder to photograph and then put it back in. So one staple was removed.

Minted for the province of Prince Edward Island, the one cent piece was the only denomination produced for the province before it entered Confederation in 1873. With a unique obverse design, this coin bears the Latin phrase, "PARVA SUB INGENTI", or "The small beneath the great", illustrated by the large oak tree which represents England protecting the province, symbolized by three trees representing its three counties. Strong details remain throughout in this mint state strike, resulting in a rare provincial coin in remarkable condition. This coin is a must have for collectors of provincial coins (12/12).
